At the age of about fifteen, I started to experience excruciating pain after I ate. It was if I could feel the food enter my stomach and would only feel pain. From fresh fruit to pop tarts. The doctors could not figure it out, and I was put on medication to take daily and was told I would be on it for the rest of my life. BUT GOD!
By the time I was twenty-five, I had been to the emergency room many times, and woke up daily in pain. I would describe it as “it felt like there was a full-on rager happening in my intestines and I went through most of the days in pain. Pain became normal. All doctors knew was that my intestines were inflamed and that was causing the pain, but they didn’t know why. I lived with daily heartburn in addition to all the other discomforts.
At about 25, when I was in my bible college course, we were reading a book called “Bondage Breaker”. In the beginning, it taught that often issues are both spiritual and physical, not just one or the other. And when a physical reason cannot be found, it is a spiritual. It so happened that I was preparing for yet another doctor’s appointment with a new doctor and I had all my bloodwork and test results in front of me the night before. Everything was normal and healthy. There was no explanation for the pain.
That next day in Bible college, the teacher led the room in being led by the Holy Spirit and hearing from the Holy Spirit. She heard two words. The first one was that someone in the room was contemplating suicide. The young woman broke down, and we had the opportunity to pray for her and praise Jesus. She is doing well today. The second word was that
“There is someone here who is suffering with gastrointestinal issues that are linked to trauma in childhood.”
That was me. I went up to her after, and I told her about the issues and the bloodwork. She asked when it started and what happened. It began after I had moved into my second adoptive family after abuse from my first family. The pain was linked to that trauma. We prayed right then and there and instantly I felt NO PAIN! I felt that I could stand taller than I had before and as if my intestines were brand new. I knew they were new, and I had been healed! Most importantly is that I received the healing! I woke up pain-free and have lived pain-free, no meds and no limits to my diet! God heals!!
Now here is another interesting part though. A few months before, after a particularly painful week, I was at the youth ministry on a Friday night. The spirit of the Lord was heavy and powerful, and the pastor began to speak of healing. I remember hearing the words “if you are hungry for a miracle, come up here”. My body moved without any hesitation or thought. I took a giant step on to the stage and was right next to the pastor and the podium. He prayed. I felt the spirit move… but I still felt pain.
At the next appointment, they did a scan and said they saw NO hiatal hernia, which is part of what they had found before, but there was no trace of it!!!
I didn’t believe it, I doubted the evidence, I doubted the encounter and held on to the pain! But when I had the revelation that this is not of God, it is spiritual and God is our healer. I received the healing and am thankful every day to our glorious Abba father who sees us.
Amen.
When in your life did the Lord heal you? Can you share how he healed you?
