My Grandpas Ruth

Growing up, my grandparent’s house was the safest, the coziest and my favorite place of all to be. We would catch lizards, eat fresh fruit from the trees, feed the turtles and cozy up and watch movies. Many of my fondest memories were there.
My grandma with the warmest hugs and best pie. My grandpa with hugs, jokes and never once did I see him without the peace of Jesus. God rest his soul, my birthday twin and favorite veteran passed away this past summer. Our last visit was a whole other God story in itself.

It was many years and twists and turns in my story, but as an adult, I came to know Jesus for myself. And one of my visits to my grandparents I wanted to know how they became Christians and how they met. This is one of my favorite stories my grandfather ever shared with me.

He and my grandmother were both married before and were all friends as my grandpa and her late husband worked together. My grandpa’s marriage brought him 4 beautiful kids but it however did not work out. After a while as my grandpa surrendered everything to the Lord, he asked the Lord one night if he was even supposed to marry again. Then as clear as day, my beautiful grandma Nancy appeared at the foot of his bed (she in fact was not there she clarified with a chuckle). He said, “Well alright then”. He called her up, asked her on a date and the rest is history. My sister who knew my grandpa before he got together with my grandma Nancy said he never seemed truly happy until she came into his life.

I can attest to their sweet love. As a child, I would see kisses and sweet affection that as a very young kid may have seemed “icky” as most kids see adult PDA lol, but as an adult it’s a love and future I pray to enjoy.

May God bless you in your marriage or future marriage as you seek His face, amen.
